My hope is built on nothing less
Than Jesus' blood and righteousness;
I dare not trust the sweetest frame,
But wholly lean on Jesus' name.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

When darkness veils His lovely face,
I rest on His unchanging grace;
In every high and stormy gale,
My anchor holds within the veil.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

His oath, His covenant, His blood,
Support me in the whelming flood;
When all around my soul gives way,
He then is all my hope and stay.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

When He shall come with trumpet sound,
Oh, may I then in Him be found;
Dressed in His righteousness alone,
Faultless to stand before the throne.

On Christ the solid Rock I stand,
All other ground is sinking sand,
All other ground is sinking sand.

HAPPY ALL SAINTS / REFORMATION DAY

For all the saints, who from their labor rest,
Who thee by faith before the world confessed,
Thy name, O Jesus, be forever blessed.
ALLELUIA! ALLELUIA!

Today we remember those who have lived and died before us as followers of Jesus.

We also remember the courageous faith of Martin Luther for standing up for what is honorable, just, pure and lovely against a those who were using Jesus for their own gain.

Thanks be to God for those who have kept the faith once delivered.

Last weekend I was challenged by a Brother to start blogging. I have been hesitant to do so but cannot get away from the idea. So let's start with a question:
What is most important in life?
- God?
- Spouse?
- Children?
- Family?
- Work? Hell no.

I struggle not so much with the answer as much as the reality of what/how I spend my life on. If God/Jesus is the most important then why do I allow my income producing activity take up such a large portion of my life?
These and other questions will be addressed as I move forward.

First Steps: Observation

Observation is the first and most important step in exegesis.
Here is a great website about observation.

Here is an excellent site on OT Exegesis by Allen P. Ross

Presuppositions & OT Exegesis

A presupposition is a supposition or belief made prior to having knowledge.
If I say, "I saw a man with two heads." That presupposes that a man with two heads exists.

We all have presuppositions. When we come to read the Bible there are ideas already in our minds that influence how we interpret what we read.

Q1: What are some presuppositions you have about the Old Testament?

Q2: How do you think these effect how you read and study the Old Testament?
